Do you know anybody who survived a Japanese prison camp during World War II? Have you heard of women and children being in one? Children of the Camps Japan’s Last Forgotten Victims made me realize that women and children were imprisoned in World War II Japanese prison camps. Before I read Mark Felton’s book I did not believe it actually happened. .
Children of the Camps Japan’s Last Forgotten Victims has graphic details of survival and resilience that they had to endure while they lived in these camps. Also, this is a story about the process of becoming internees in a prison camp. And how they felt entering Japanese prison camps after they had lived a privileged life.
For many reasons life was very hard for them. Several stories told me told me about how some of the Japanese guards and locals showed compassion to them. Also, how their lives were shaped from this experience after the war ended. According to this author they may have developed PSTD due to the psychological effect of what happened to them.
I am glad Mark Felton wrote Children of the Camps Japan’s Last Forgotten Victims because we need to understand why this chapter of war history happened. I believe we should try to show compassion and understanding concerning other points of view. It should not be happening.
Books like this and movies like Empire of the Sun are a great reminder that we all need to live in Peace and not in Hate. You see the person who wrote the movie Empire of the Sun survived one of these Japanese prison camps.
