Crossings By Danielle Steel

Have you ever read a romance novel you could not put down?  I did when I read Crossings by Danielle Steel.  I loved the way she wrote how Liane De Villierses fell in love with Nick Burnham during World War 2.  She skillfully wove how they first met and how they became romantically involved and how they handled it.  Also, she makes you feel you are walking in their shoes.

Crossings tells a story about a happily married woman who was returning with her French ambassador husband Armond.  He was returning to his own country on the Normandie to help his country fight Adolf Hitler.  Nick was known as an American steel magnate, and a kind man trapped in a loveless marriage. He was going to France to complete steel contracts.  Also, he brought along his wife and son on this trip overseas.

When I was reading Crossings I was wondering how it would feel to be traveling on a transatlantic voyage while there were impending war rumors?  And about personally surviving the horrors of war like they did?  Also, how much dedication Liane and her daughters had for Armond while he was fighting for their freedom in France.  And upon returning to America how they were treated as an enemy of the country.

I truly hope I can do as well as she did to support her husband during this difficult period. Also, it shows how people who feel all rumors are true and are unable to show compassion and understanding to others. Ultimately, this book showed me how we must treat everybody with compassion and understanding.

Even though Danielle Steel wrote this book several years ago she has made it seem timeless.   All of her books could relate to any generation who read them. They need to be on a must-read book list like Angala Christie.  This is why you should read it.  In fact, you can learn how our history affects all of us.  I can’t wait to read more of her books.
